  1. Read some other books by Toni Morrison and see how they compare with
     Beloved.

  2. Compare Beloved with Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, another story
     about a single mother ostracized by society.

  3. Compare and contrast the moral dilemmas faced by Jean Valjean in Les
     Miserables, Huck in Huckleberry Finn, and Sethe in Beloved.

  4. Read what several literary critics have said about Beloved and see if
     you agree with them.

  5. Interview someone who has ancestors who were slaves and see if any
     family stories resemble aspects of Beloved.

  6. Conduct extensive research on a historical aspect of Beloved.

  7. Read or watch one of the interviews with Toni Morrison listed in the
     bibliography.

  8. Read more literary works written by contemporary black female authors.

  9. Devise a list of moral dilemmas faced by other literary characters or
     historical figures.
